EPS4D Impact Protection

The Pioneer 3 Access uses Salomon’s EPS4D technology as its primary impact-absorption system.

EPS4D is designed to maximise energy absorption during an impact while helping protect against both vertical and oblique shocks. This gives the helmet a more sophisticated approach to impact management than a conventional EPS construction alone.

For everyday resort skiing, this provides an important combination of protection and low weight without requiring the additional complexity of a MIPS system.

It is worth noting that the Pioneer 3 Access is the non-MIPS version of the Pioneer 3 family. Salomon offers a separate Pioneer 3 MIPS model for skiers specifically looking for MIPS® rotational-impact technology.

Lightweight In-Mold Construction

The helmet uses In-Mold construction, where a lightweight polycarbonate shell is fused with an EPS liner.

This construction method allows Salomon to keep the overall weight down while maintaining the structural protection required for skiing and snowboarding. At approximately 390 g, the Pioneer 3 Access is light enough to remain comfortable throughout a full day on the mountain.

The Pioneer 3 Access features Salomon’s MaxFit Construction around the ears.

The system uses a redesigned V-shaped ear-pad construction designed to provide an immediately snug and comfortable fit. The ear pads help the helmet feel secure without requiring excessive tightening from the rear adjustment system.

This is particularly beneficial during long days on the mountain, when pressure points can become increasingly noticeable.

High-Level Ventilation

The Pioneer 3 Access has a high ventilation level, helping move air through the helmet as you ski.
